Picasso, the Swinging Sixties and Singapore launched his career as a fashion photographer. As a youth, David Bailey, born in 1938 in London’s East End, tried almost everything: From carpet salesman, shoe salesman to window dresser. While serving his national service for the British Royal Air Force, Bailey was posted to Singapore in 1956. There, he discovered the work of Henri Cartier Bresson and the next year, he bought his first ever camera. His pictures are typically black & white, minimalist & very graphic. Perhaps as famous as his photographs (and subjects) are Bailey’s exploits of other forms: Cohabiting with British 60’s model sensation Jean Shrimpton, marrying the wonderfully sultry French actress Catherine Deneuve and becoming best friends with Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger.
