All about couture

Really really enjoyed the Chanel behind-the-scene documentary recommended by The Clothes Project: Loïc Prigent’s documentary Signé Chanel.
It was so thrilling to see the realisation of a Haute Couture collection. The rush, hard work, anxiety, elation (and collective relief) from having completed the task- one masterpiece at a time. It’s kind of like watching the clothing equivalent of Fast and Furious. If you haven’t already seen [...]

what a bummer

The random flea market I talked about in an earlier post has been postponed. The guys who’re working on this (and who by the way have been working really hard to make it happen) will inform us once details have been firmed up. Sorry for getting everyone so excited for nothing. But it will (well should) happen! Check back here for updates.

cig harvey

I’ve always loved Kate Spade ads: Bright, chirpy colours and cute, creative ideas. Design Director Abby did her last advertising campaign with Kate Spade and featured one of her works on her Hi+Low blog (above). And through her, I now finally know who shot the lovely Kate Spade pictures: Cig Harvey

Back to the future

This is really cute. Apparently, Marc Jacob’s backwards heels concept is a 50 year old idea! This was the note that brought blogger Manolo’s attention to the uncanny resemblance:
Dear Manolo,
This evening, while reading James Lilek’s delightful ramblings on The Bleat, I was charmed to see that he had included a photo of the cover of the January 1955 issue [...]

For Ez

Ez wrote to us last week about dressing up for her body shape.
You said you’re not tall (1.5m), that you have broad shoulders and tried to dress up in quirky/trendy styles but usually end up looking like a body builder. Before you develop your own style, you’ve got to first work out your body shape.
Broad shoulders
Think about it, broad shoulders [...]

deck the halls

Saw this on decor 8. Would love to have it in the shop! If, and when, I get the budget.

Also, I’ve been working on a request from Ez, who wrote to us:
hey there was wondering if you could help me put in terms of dressing according to my body shape. i’m quite short(1.50m!) and have quite broad [...]

on muses

We were away most parts of last week and are we glad to be back! Went on a buying frenzy this time and ordered lots of fall/winter-ish items that are absolutely wearable in our weather (especially freezing air-conditioned offices and lecture halls). These should come in time for our October collection.
While away, WL and I caught the Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory [...]

Belting it out

So my friend and I were going through some of the new clothes we brought in for SL. We were looking through the collection and discussing different ways we would wear the pieces.
Then there was this printed bell-shaped tunic-dress. I said I would simply strap a belt over my hips, wear it low-slung and pair the dress with sandals or flip flops: A really at-ease [...]

Loving

…the bag!

…the electric blue fascinator against her super blonde hair.

…her hair, the huge striped bows and love that there’s absolutely no accessory on her but her beautiful shoulders.

…her hair, those pixie features & her plain white tee.

…the hair! Very Mary Quant.
It’s so nice to visit DirtyDirtyDancing once in awhile for a shot of fresh ideas.
