the author of patterns from the past (mentioned in previous post) has a really cool collection of vintage sewing patterns for sale online. inspiring even if you don’t sew!

high society
was clicking around when i found this interesting post written about high waisted pants on patterns from the past. it was posted last feb and reminded me of style bubble’s very inspiring post on the early 90’s look. really like the idea of high waisted pants + loose blazer though friends have commented that it’s hardly a look for non-models. but i guess it isn’t much fun [...]

on another note
something else from the april issue of lucky. really like how fresh and pretty this outfit looks. the colour of the jacket, the vest peeking out from under in a really nice shade that i can’t quite figure out and the structure and texture (look at that shine!) of the green skirt. and that lovely pendant necklace to finish off the look.

it’s oh so quiet
have always been very fond of extremes in accessorising: either go super chunky and very layered or really quiet and understated. the pendant necklace is one of my favourite types of ‘quiet accessory’. lovely necklaces via lucky magazine.

annie leibovitz
the 21st singapore film fest will be on from 4th to 14th april. thanks to ampulet, WL and I will try to catch the documentary on photographer annie leibovitz: life through a lens. leibovitz is probably one of the rare few photogs who is well known for both portrait and fashion photography. on her report card: those famous vanity fair covers, elaborate fashion spreads, [...]

imitating art
still very fascinated by the idea of wear palettes. developed new way of picking out clothes for last couple of days: (1) stand a distance from the wardrobe, (2) reach out first for colours, (3) find ways to turn them into wearable outfits. this means waking up slightly earlier than usual, but surely practice makes perfect so i should be [...]

cabbage chair
made by nendo, discovered through her & designed for the XXIst Century Man exhibition curated by Issey Miyake to commemorate the first anniversary of 21_21 Design Sight in Roppongi, Tokyo. the brief: to make furniture out of the pleated paper that is produced in mass amounts during the process of making pleated fabric, and usually abandoned [...]

the dress named Abandon
‘Abandon’ was made by christian dior for his fall/winter 1948-49 collection as an afternoon dress. love the idea and what a name!
Vogue (September 15, 1948) noted the extraordinary neckline of this dress, specifying the “plunging neckline with side-slanted fold.” The asymmetrical gathering of fabric swoops around the neck in the same manner as the 1948 skirts but closes low [...]

wear palettes
this is so damn cool. wear palettes collects pictures taken by the sartorialist and derives colour palettes out of every photo based not only on the wearer’s outfit, but the most amazing details like hair colour, mobile phones, lip colours, earrings, to name a few. haven’t stopped marvelling at the clever idea since i read it on style bubble last night. it’s fun just [...]
